Read Your Bible Every Day

Why Reading the Bible Matters

The Bible is God’s Word and the foundation of our faith. It helps us grow spiritually, understand God’s will, and strengthen our relationship with Jesus. Just as food nourishes the body, Scripture nourishes the soul.

Understanding the Bible

The Bible is divided into two main sections:

  • The Old Testament: Written before Jesus’ birth, it contains history, prophecy, and God’s commandments. The new testament refers to it as “the shadow of things to come” – so the shadow of what a living relationship with Jesus is about.

  • The New Testament: Focuses on Jesus’ life, His teachings, His death and resurrection, the power of the Holy Spirit  and the early church. This is a great place for new believers to start.

Where to Start

If you are new to the Bible, begin with:

  • The Gospel of John – It explains who Jesus is and why He came.

  • The Book of Acts – Shows how the early church spread the message of Jesus and the working of the Holy Spirit.

  • Psalms & Proverbs – Psalms help with worship and prayer, while Proverbs gives wisdom for daily life.

How to Study the Bible

  1. Pray First – Ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding and to open the word for you.

  2. Read Slowly – Take your time to absorb the message, learn about Jesus.

  3. Take Notes – Write down insights the Holy Spirit shows you or questions you might have.

  4. Apply It – Think about how the passage applies to your life, and ask the Holy Spirit to make the word alive in your life.

  5. Use a Study Bible or Devotional – These can help with explanations and context for questions you might have.

Applying What You Read

  • Memorize Key Verses – Store God’s Word in your heart, so that you can recall the promises of God for you.

  • Live It Out – Let Scripture shape your thoughts and actions through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • Share with Others – Discuss what you learn with fellow believers and share your testimony with unbelievers.
